Witch Hunt: Babette Log Pt. 1 There are many places in the Multiverse where Adalinda Blumenkrantz has never been. But there are also many places right here on Earth (or the iteration she hails from) she has ALSO never been. One such place is the United States of America. There are very few good things one could ever ascribe to Witch Hunting. 'Seeing new places' is generally not one that fits on that extremely brief list, but it's on Adalinda's own list at least. A 'Matress World' store in Seattle, Washington, is not exactly a new place that she expected to find herself in, though.
However, this is where a Witch will appear. They know it this time. They got here well in advance. The Union is here, they have evacuated every last innocent bystander via one cover story or another, and this time they were super discrete about it. No teleporting in, no power armor, no nothing. At least not until they were alone. Now there's a circle of strange devices in the middle of the floor. The devices are new technolo
Everyday BadassI am an Everyday Badass.
Or that's what they say.
They think I'm real cool,
But I don't see it that way
I'm there when they need me,
I help in a pinch,
But when I look away from the bomb
It's because I know I'll flinch.
I'm not epic and I'm not special,
My name isn't 'Action Nate Fury'.
I'm not a legend, I'm just this guy.
And I'm always wracked with worry.
They call me the Everyday Badass,
But I don't think I'm qualified.
They say I'm really awesome,
(Something I've often denied).
I'm the one with the answers,
The man with the plan.
That's what they say,
But I don't understand.
I'm not epic and I'm not special.
That stuff I did before I won't repeat.
I'm not a soldier. I'm not a hero.
I'm always sitting on the edge of my seat.
Some call me the Everyday Badass.
I really wish they'd stop.
Witch-Hunt: Gorgi Log Pt. 2"...Huh," is Tony's reaction to the ahead-of-her-time calculations running on the machine. Something to ask about /later/ though; right now finding the center of this labyrinth thing is the most important thing. "Getting a map..." he reports, and after a murmured exchange with his suit's AI, continues, "uploading it to the mission frequency now."
Iron Man then makes his way off along the path. Jarvis helpfully highlights the safe tiles and marks the hidden pitfalls on his HUD, which makes it a significantly easier task to stay to the safe path. Anyone who's less sure of their footing might do well to follow him.
Tony... doesn't quite jump the gun on the level that his companions do, at the sudden appearance of the /thing/ on the platform up ahead, but he does freeze in his tracks and can be heard, faintly through the helmet, asking Jarvis what the /*badword*/ that thing is. His hands snap up with a whine of charging energy and he shifts cautiously into a more stable stance. "Is that--"
Witch-Hunt: Gorgi Log Pt. 1 For the first time since unification, Adalinda has managed to get her Witch Prediction Program to successfully do as its name implies it can do and predict the appearance of a Witch before it actually happens. She used to need the help of at least one Puella Magi who would use her Soul Gem to 'share' its resonance to Witches with Adalinda's laptop. With a combination of Union technology upgrades, a sensor device attuned to magical energy (that Adalinda had merely considered some form of unknown radioactivity before she unified), data gathered from previous Witch Encounters, and a refinement of her program via being afforded access to one of the Union's super computers, it seems that prediction without a Soul Gem is now fully functional. This should hopefully save many lives. Sadly, the prediction effect only seems to apply to this one world presently.
It is enough, however. Adalinda notified the union five hours in advance that she knew where a Witch would be appearing. I
Witch-Hunt: Alindogan Log Pt. 1[A] In German, Adalinda clears her throat. "I have located activity and energy patterns consistent with a Witch's presence. I am already on my way to the location -- the Laguna province, on the island of Luzon. However, those who are able to assist joining me would be very appreciated. I am not really equipped to handle a Witch by myself."
Eleanor Lamb says, "Bother. Time to suit up properly."
[5-SA] Psyber says, "I shall be there shortly."
Altea Saito says, "On my way."
Altea Saito and Specio say "Unison in."
The site where the Union has deployed to confront this next Witch is in the Laguna province, on the island of Luzon, in the Philippines. The Philippines were hit by flash floods back in late-September (within this 2009 iteration of Earth, at least), impacting major cities and municipalities. While reconstruction is underway, over a hundred people lost their lives, and thousands more were rendered homeless. One particular town was hit hard. Most of the populati
